Nutrition Therapy -
Insurance Coverage Available
Nutrition Therapy, practiced with a special focus on using targeted, natural and nutrient-dense foods to address health concerns, and using food as medicine, is what I do.
The art and science of nutrition therapy involves evidence-based personalized care, individualized food plans based on science, and ensuring your dietary plan is targeting your health and medical concerns. It is through thoughtful dietary and lifestyle changes, tailored to the individual, that we can see profound and long-lasting health improvements that deeply improve the quality of life of patients/clients, and affect health and longevity.
Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) is formal terminology that describes dietary therapy to address a specific medical diagnosis, is practiced with a referral from a physician in the state of California (not in other states I practice in), and is often reimbursable by insurance. Preventative MNT benefits coverage is often quite good for PPO fully-funded policies with the national carriers (Aetna, United Healthcare, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and Cigna). MNT benefits for those with Medicare + Advantage policies are typically limited to specific conditions including diabetes and chronic kidney disease. See Insurance Coverage for more info.
Why Nutrition Therapy?
By addressing the underlying (root) cause of health imbalances and chronic disease with nutrition and improved daily habits, and factoring in genetic, environmental, and lifestyle influences, nutrition therapy has the power to transform lives one by one (yours!) and change the trajectory of our widespread and growing preventable lifestyle disease crisis.
I take exceptional care with each client to meet you exactly where you are in your health journey.
Following an in-depth intake process, we determine the best steps forward for addressing your most immediate health concerns, all while establishing a long-term plan—whether we are addressing multiple health concerns simultaneously, or for your ongoing optimal health journey. We will work together to ensure your nutritional bases are well covered, and that any lifestyle factors getting in the way of being your best self get the full attention they deserve, at a pace that is sustainable for you.
How We Work Together
-
I am happy to answer brief questions about myself and my practice.
-
With your insurance information, I can verify if you have coverage for MNT. To verify details of coverage, you can call your insurance carrier to inquire. Use the “Insurance Verification Checklist” form provided as a link on the “Insurance” page of this website for thorough instructions.
-
A physician referral is required for all Medical Nutrition Therapy in California only. Again, refer to my “Insurance Verification Checklist” linked from the “Insurance” page of this website for more information.
-
At the time of booking an Initial Consultation, intake forms will be emailed to you. Please complete all intake forms, no less than 24-hours prior to the appointment to allow for thorough review.
-
We will review your wellness goals, health history, health and medical concerns, and symptoms outlined in the intake forms.
Following our session, I will provide a personalized functional health plan, including recommended therapeutic diet and lifestyle changes, functional lab testing recommendations if applicable, and a nutritional supplement plan that is targeted specifically for your needs.
The treatment plan will be based on a partnership between me (the clinician) and you (the patient/client), and the implementation is a process that typically involves engagement and motivation by the client, but with the patient/client always in the “drivers seat”.
-
We will schedule a follow-up appointments at whatever cadence is appropriate for your level of care and support.
Often weekly visits are recommended when getting started in order to provide more support in initial stages of change implementation, with cadence tapering down as appropriate to every-other-week or monthly.
